Who makes Arbmax
Arbmax is a Northern Irish manufacturer, based in Tyrone.
Every new Arbmax machine in the range runs a Stage V emissions-compliant diesel engine, either Deutz or CAT.
Hardox lines the chambers and feed wheels, the parts that take the wear from hardwood and contaminated timber.
Those specs reflect Arbmax’s stated core principles: reliability, durability, and performance, built for arboriculture and forestry rather than adapted from farm or construction machinery.
That distinction matters because of what the work actually involves. Land clearance and forestry jobs put grit-laden timber, root balls, and hours of continuous feeding through a chipper.
Exactly the kind of heavy, sustained use Arbmax designed the range to handle.
Capacity across the range
The Arbmax range spans 12-inch to 18-inch cutting capacity.
The F30 disc chipper handles 12-inch material, and the drum models take that up to 18 inches on the D45 and D45X.
That size would normally mean HGV haulage.
The D45 stays under the 3.5-tonne limit for a standard towing licence on its road-legal wheeled chassis.
You get a much bigger chipper without the licence or trailer upgrade that size usually forces.
Disc or drum chippers
Capacity sets the ceiling; disc or drum decides how well the machine holds up to what’s going through it.
The F30’s disc cuts cleanly and needs less power to run, with high-torque vertical feed wheels that keep the chip consistent. It suits clean tree work.
The drum models on the D35, D45, and D45X handle contaminated or knotted timber that would dull a disc faster. Perfect for land clearance and contaminated timber
We match the machine to the material, not just the biggest branch on the job sheet.
The Arbmax range ILH stocks
Four models cover disc and drum cutting across three capacity levels.
F30 (12-Inch Disc)
The Arbmax F30 is the entry point into the range and the only disc chipper Arbmax builds.
It’s aimed at small to medium-sized forestry and tree surgery outfits that don’t need full drum capacity.
It runs a CAT C3.6 134hp or Deutz 2.9-litre 75hp engine, in a wheeled 3,100kg chassis or a tracked 3,800kg version for difficult ground.
D35 (13-Inch Tracked Drum)
The D35 is the newest model in the range, driven by a 75hp Deutz diesel power unit.
It weighs 2,700kg and feeds through a 350mm by 450mm opening, controlled by a three-speed remote track system.
During it’s debut and it was regarded as the largest capacity 13-inch tracked wood chipper on the market that can be towed under 3,500kg.
D45 (18-Inch Road-Towable Drum)
The D45 is the biggest drum chipper you can still tow on a standard licence.
It runs a CAT C3.6 134hp engine and stays under 3.5 tonnes on a road-legal wheeled chassis.
The drum shifts around 70 cubic metres of chip an hour, enough throughput for many operators to keep a crew moving efficiently without the need of a second machine.
D45X (18-Inch Tracked Drum)
The D45X carries the same 18-inch drum as the D45, but on a tracked chassis.
That suits forestry and land clearance sites a wheeled machine can’t reach.
Engine options run from a 134hp CAT up to a 228hp Deutz for the biggest jobs.
Built for durability, handling the heaviest jobs
Arbmax engineers line every chamber with Hardox, a wear-resistant steel. It shrugs off contaminated timber, root balls, and material with grit and stone still in the bark, where a standard liner would wear through fast.
The D35 and D45 process material fast enough to keep a crew feeding continuously rather than waiting on the machine.
Biomass and landscaping markets both take Arbmax chip.
The drum models produce a consistent, uniform size that suits biomass fuel buyers, while coarser settings work for mulch and site clearance.
Feed wheels take the same Hardox treatment as the chamber.
On a smaller chipper, worn feed wheels just mean slower feeding. On a machine processing this volume, worn wheels mean an operator manually pushing timber through rather than the machine pulling it in.
Who runs an Arbmax
Forestry contractors are the core buyer for the bigger drum models.
A crew clearing plantation or windblown timber runs a high-volume operation all day.
The D45X’s tracked chassis gets to ground a wheeled machine would need a trackway to cross.
Nothing else in our range matches that combination of throughput and access.
Land clearance, tree surgery, and councils
Land clearance and site development contractors buy the D45 for the same reason, minus the tracked access requirement.
A site with a haul road solid enough for a wheeled machine doesn’t need the D45X’s tracks.
The lighter, road-towable D45 covers the same work without the extra weight and cost.
Established arborists and tree surgery firms may add an F30 or D35 once their workload outgrows their existing kit.
Keep the smaller chipper for routine residential jobs, and bring the Arbmax out for bigger felling and clearance contracts.
Councils and utilities buy in for much the same reason.
Storm response and vegetation management need that same volume and reliability, just without the forestry access requirements.
Hire or buy
Arbmax chippers are available to hire as well as buy, serviced in our workshop between every hire like the rest of our fleet.
Hiring suits a one-off felling contract or a storm-damage clearance where the volume of work doesn’t justify owning an 18-inch chipper outright.
If Arbmax-scale work is a regular part of your contracts, buying makes more sense long term.

A breakdown on an 18-inch drum chipper costs a crew far more in lost time than a breakdown on a compact chipper. Parts and service are handled from our own workshop.
