The ARB Max D45X is a heavy-duty tracked 18-inch drum wood chipper designed for professional forestry, land clearance and biomass processing operations. Available with either a DEUTZ Stage V 5.2 engine producing 170kW (228hp) and 950Nm of torque or a CAT Stage V 3.6 unit delivering 100kW (134hp) and 550Nm, the D45X brings exceptional chipping power to even the most demanding job sites.
The tracked chassis is rated to 8,000kg and features 300mm x 2,400mm rubber tracks at 2,140mm width, providing stable, low ground pressure mobility across soft, uneven and sloping terrain. This makes the D45X equally capable on woodland clearance sites, motorway embankments and flood plain restoration projects where wheeled machines would struggle.
At the heart of the machine is a 4-knife drum fitted with chromium alloy quick-change blades and a single reversible, adjustable chromium alloy anvil. The 450mm x 610mm (18 x 24 inch) infeed aperture accepts large diameter timber, while the 1,425mm x 850mm hopper opening allows fast and efficient loading. Two selectable chipping modes for brash and logs optimise drum speed and feed rate for different material types.
The discharge system offers 350-degree hydraulic rotation with a standard height range of 2.6 to 3.4 metres, with extended options available at 4.4m or 5.2m for direct loading into high-sided containers and walking floor trailers. A G50 biomass screen comes as standard, ensuring consistent chip size for biomass fuel applications.
All machine functions are controlled through a 4.3-inch HMI colour screen complemented by a multifunction radio remote control. The radio remote gives the operator full control over feed, discharge, tracks and engine functions from a safe distance, which is particularly valuable when processing large or unpredictable timber. Three emergency stop buttons are positioned around the machine for rapid shutdown from any location.
The DEUTZ-powered variant weighs 5,100kg (5,400kg with optional infeed conveyor) while the CAT version comes in at 4,600kg. Transport dimensions of 3,760 x 2,140 x 2,630mm allow the D45X to be transported on a standard plant trailer, with working dimensions extending to 4,510 x 2,140 x 4,380mm at maximum chute height. A 150-litre fuel tank and 60-litre hydraulic tank provide extended running capacity for full-day operations without interruption.
