The ARB Max D45 is a high-capacity 18-inch drum wood chipper that brings large-scale chipping performance to a road-towable format. Built around a CAT C3.6 100kW (134hp) Stage 5 engine and a 4-pocket drum with oversized premium bearings, the D45 is engineered for tree surgery contractors and forestry operations that demand serious throughput without the logistics overhead of a tracked machine.
The 450mm x 610mm chamber opening accepts timber up to 18 inches in diameter, fed through a generous 1,425mm x 850mm hopper that speeds up loading and reduces the need to cross-cut material on site. The 4-pocket drum configuration delivers an approximate capacity of 70 cubic metres per hour, making the D45 one of the most productive road-towable chippers in its class.
Durability is central to the D45’s design. The chipping chamber is fully lined with Hardox 450 steel, providing exceptional resistance to wear and impact from processing hardwood, contaminated timber and demolition wood. The quick-change knife system minimises downtime during blade maintenance, allowing operators to swap knives rapidly on site without specialist tools.
The reversible single anvil extends service intervals by offering two working faces before replacement is required. Combined with the Hardox chamber lining, this reduces ongoing consumable costs and keeps the machine productive during extended chipping campaigns.
The chassis features twin 1,900kg heavy-duty leaf-sprung suspension units and is fully galvanised for long-term corrosion resistance. Three hydraulic stabilising legs provide a rock-solid platform during chipping operations, eliminating chassis movement that could affect chip quality or feed consistency.
The Venturi discharge system with removable liners ensures efficient chip ejection and easy maintenance access. All machine functions are managed through a 4.3-inch HMI screen with ECO mode, allowing the operator to optimise fuel consumption and noise output for different working environments. The ECO mode is particularly valuable for urban tree work where noise restrictions may apply.
With 80-litre fuel and hydraulic tanks, the D45 delivers extended running times between refuelling stops, keeping productivity high throughout a full working day.
