Log Handling Equipment
ILH Groundcare supplies log handling equipment for MultiOne and Sherpa loaders, including log grabs and a hydraulic winch, to tree surgeons, forestry contractors, landscapers and farms across Scotland.
The grabs and winch fit the loaders we sell and hire.
One team matches the attachment to the machine, supplies both, and services them together at our Cumbernauld workshop.

MultiOne log grab for lifting and carrying heavy logs
The MultiOne log grab is a heavy-duty grapple for gripping, lifting and carrying harvested timber.
Hydraulic grab arms close down on the log and hold it against the lower forks, so a log stays secured while the loader carries it across the site.
How the grab holds a log
Each arm is worked by its own cylinder, so the two arms move independently and the grab can close around a log that isn’t lying square.
That helps with a trunk section that is tapered or forked, because one arm can close further than the other.
The same grab handles small logs and large tree trunks.
We check the weight of the section against your loader’s lift rating before you pick it up.
Where the log grab attachment is useful
Fencing and forest work are where the log grab sees most use, moving posts and round timber alike.
It also suits landscape contractors clearing felled sections and farms stacking timber, firewood or fencing stock.
For loading logs onto a trailer or into a truck, the grab lifts the log off the ground and places it in one movement, and it releases the load when you open the arms.
It is compatible with the MultiOne 2 Series upwards, and the 1 Series isn’t listed.
MultiOne hydraulic winch for timber you can’t drive to
Some logs lie where a loader can’t follow, at the bottom of a bank, behind a boundary wall or deep in a plantation.
The MultiOne hydraulic winch pulls them out to where the machine can reach, and it tows poles and boats as well as timber.
What comes with the hydraulic winch
The winch is a compact unit driven by a hydraulic motor, and it mounts on the MultiOne quick attach plate like any other attachment.
It carries 25 metres (82 feet) of wire rope, a towing hitch and a safety net.
Because of MultiOne’s quick-hitch attachment system, the same loader can swap between a log grab and the winch with ease.
It is compatible with the 2 Series and up.
Working it from the seat
One person can run the whole job.
Switch the auxiliary hydraulics lever to continuous flow from the driver’s seat and the drum is released, so you can pull the wire out by hand to the load.
Hook onto the log, return to the seat and move the lever the opposite way, and the winch reels the rope in.
That control from the seat means nobody stands beside a loaded wire, and the operator can stop the pull the instant a log snags.
Sherpa hydraulic log grab for arborist work
The Sherpa hydraulic log grab is built for logs, branches and brash on arborist jobs, where a small tracked loader works in places a larger machine can’t.
It opens to 1,000mm and closes down to 60mm, so it takes thin brash as well as a full log.
A manual swivel with two locking positions lets you set the grab in line with the chassis or across it.
In line suits a narrow path, while across the chassis suits stacking and loading beside the machine.
Within ILH’s Sherpa range, it fits the Sherpa 110 Eco, 100 2Speed, 100 Small, 100 Petrol and 100 Diesel.
The choice of loader follows the job, from the Small for tight gateways to the Diesel for long days.
Choosing the right log handling equipment for your compact loader
Start with the loader you already run. If it is a Sherpa, the Sherpa grab is the answer.
A MultiOne 2 Series or larger takes the MultiOne grab and the winch, and the 11 Series gives the most lift and reach for heavier trunks.
The winch solves a different problem from the grabs. A grab moves timber you can reach, and a winch brings in timber you can’t, so a woodland job often wants both.
A forklift or tractor with a grapple does some of this work, but a compact loader fits a gateway a tractor won’t and works on ground a forklift would sink into.
Versatility of our compact loaders for forestry work
A compact loader can cover several stages of a forestry job by changing attachments.
Once the felled timber has been moved, the same machine can help with stump work, firewood preparation or clearing up the site.
MultiOne’s attachment range includes stump grinders for dealing with stumps after felling and a hydraulic log splitter for turning cut rounds into firewood. These extend the loader’s work beyond the lifting and extraction covered by a log grab and winch.
On a Sherpa, you can swap the hydraulic log grab for a bucket to move woodchip or a set of pallet forks to carry palletised fencing supplies. That gives a small loader useful work during both tree clearance and the repairs that follow.
Tell the ILH team which loader you run and what the job involves.
We can advise on attachment compatibility, hydraulic flow and lifting capacity, and help you choose equipment for the work you do most often.
Hire, buy and servicing compact loaders in Scotland
You can buy new MultiOne and Sherpa kit from us, or take a loader on compact loader hire when a contract is short.
Every new MultiOne carries a 3-year warranty.
Our workshop in Cumbernauld services the loader and the attachment together, so a worn grab pivot or a frayed wire rope gets dealt with before the next job.

FAQs on log handling equipment in Scotland
Which MultiOne loaders take the log grab and the winch?
Both are compatible with the 2 Series upward and mount on the quick attach plate. Tell us the model before you order and we’ll check the fit and the hydraulic flow.
Can the Sherpa log grab turn across the loader?
Yes. The manual swivel has two locking positions, one in line with the chassis and one across it, and you set it by hand before you start the job.
How big a log can the grab lift?
The MultiOne grab takes small logs through to large trunks, but the limit is your loader’s lift rating rather than the width of the arms. Weigh a heavy section before you lift it.
