Compact Loaders Scottish Borders

ILH Groundcare sells and hires compact loaders across the Scottish Borders. We supply MultiOne and Sherpa machines for farm work, estate upkeep and groundworks, with attachments selected for each job.

A loader used to move feed around a steading can also carry fencing posts or clear muck by changing attachments. ILH Groundcare help you choose a compact loader and attachments that handle those different jobs and fits the buildings where it will work.

We’re a family-run business established in 2007 and an official MultiOne dealer. Our technicians prepare the machines at our Cumbernauld workshop, where we also carry out servicing and repairs.

Contact us for a quote with the jobs you need covered, the loads you need to lift, and any narrow entrances on the site.

  • Diesel, petrol and electric compact loaders for sale

Both MultiOne and Sherpa 100 compact loaders are available new, and we also have used equipment for sale as stock changes.

Before buying, consider which attachments will be in regular use: the loader has to lift them as well as the load, and power any hydraulic tools you intend to add.

Our team can guide you through choosing the right model and attachments for your workload.

MultiOne for lifting and attachment work

Loading a trailer across its sides takes reach as well as lifting capacity. A telescopic MultiOne can help here, but the weight it can place at full extension matters more than a headline maximum.

Bring us the load details, and we can compare suitable models.

For estate work that crosses grass, articulated steering reduces the scrubbing associated with skid-steer turns. The machine steers through a joint in its chassis, which is useful when travelling between a surfaced yard and the turf beyond it.

Choose from diesel, petrol or electric machines, with cab options on certain models for shelter during outdoor work. The purchase includes a 3-year warranty on a new MultiOne.

ILH Groundcare’s role continues after delivery, with advice on upkeep and access to the parts it needs.

    Sherpa where space is tight

A stable door or passage between steading buildings can rule out a loader that would otherwise suit the work.

Sherpa offers compact machines with an operator platform at the rear, allowing material handling in places where access leaves few options.

In the Sherpa 100 family, petrol, diesel and electric models cover different working routines.

Where mucking out takes you inside buildings, the absence of exhaust at the machine makes electric worth discussing alongside the outdoor jobs and charging arrangements.

Measure the route with the intended bucket or forks in mind; a bare machine fitting through the door is only part of the answer. The machinery for narrow gateways guide explains the access dimensions to send us.

Compact loader hire in the Scottish Borders

A short fencing job may need forks and an auger, while a course renovation may call for a bucket throughout the booking.

Let us know each stage of the project so we can include the attachments you need and price the hire around its duration.

Our fleet is available throughout Scotland.

Workshop servicing and inspection take place between bookings, and the handover includes a demonstration of the controls.

Should any problems occur, we are here to help. Just give our team a call, and we will be able to guide you through the solution.

Hiring gives you the machine for that contract without keeping it afterwards, perfect for tasks which are seasonal or irregular.

Our team can guide you through the costs of hiring compared to ownership, and give you an honest view on which suits your work better.

    Mower, bucket and forestry attachments

On a livestock farm, a bale grapple moves winter feed and a bucket clears muck and bedding. When fencing needs replacing, the same loader can carry posts on forks before switching to an auger for the holes.

A mower keeps maintained grass cut, while a flail tackles rougher vegetation around field edges and estate tracks. The cutting head and blade choice depend on the growth, so tell us about both the regular mowing and any heavier clearance you have planned.

MultiOne offers over 170 different attachments, while Sherpa offers over 50. Both brands of compact loaders can be adapted to a wide range of jobs across the year.

We check compatibility, attachment weight and hydraulic requirements so the loader you choose can run the attachments needed throughout the year.

Compact loader trailer delivery to the Scottish Borders

ILH Groundcare arranges trailer delivery from Cumbernauld, confirming availability, transport costs and timing with you before booking.

Coverage includes Melrose, Lauder and Selkirk, the coast at Eyemouth, Coldstream on the Tweed and the hill country south of Hawick.

Give us the working entrance as well as the postcode, especially where a farm or estate has several access roads.

Sales and parts go out UK-wide, including to customers across the border in northern England.

If your site sits outside Scotland, contact us to discuss the supply and support you need.

    Servicing and repairs from Cumbernauld

A loader used for feeding cannot always wait until the end of a contract for attention.

Contact the workshop with the fault and when the machine is needed, so we can discuss the repair, the journey to Cumbernauld and a realistic timescale.

Our technicians’ hands-on experience of repairs and servicing extends beyond the two brands we sell.

Alongside Sherpa and MultiOne, we work on Cast, Workquad and Avant equipment, including attachments that need attention at the same visit.

For routine maintenance, we can explain checks over the phone.

If you need a replacement part, ILH Groundcare helps establish what is required and whether it is in stock, with courier dispatch available for genuine spares and common wear items.

Where compact loaders work in the Scottish Borders

    Hill farms and the Merse

Borders farming ranges from upland sheep ground to the arable land of the Merse.

A tractor may be away drilling, baling or spreading while feed, bedding and silage still need moving around the steading; a separate loader can keep that yard work going.

On arable farms, pallet forks handle seed and fertiliser deliveries.

In winter, a compatible MultiOne snow blade or salt spreader keeps private yard routes and access to feed stores usable during snow and ice.

Hill ground adds gradients and wet access routes, where loaded weight, tyres and slope limits matter. It is a factor ILH Groundcare always takes into account when recommending machinery.

Estates, golf courses and castle grounds

From the parkland at Floors Castle near Kelso to gardens and woodland around Melrose, estate work involves moving materials between hardstanding, paths and turf.

On golf courses, a loader can carry sand to bunkers and topdressing to renovation areas. Tyres and loaded machine weight matter when that route crosses maintained turf, particularly in wet weather.

Flooding along the Tweed and its tributaries can leave yards and paths needing clearance.

Once access is safe, a bucket can collect deposited material and bring aggregate for repairs. A sweeper can then clear loose dirt from hardstanding, giving the same loader work through each stage of the clean-up.

    Forestry, timber and building work

Storm damage in Tweed Valley woodland can leave both timber to clear and tracks to repair.

After tree surgeons have made the area safe and cut the timber, a grab can move logs and branches before the loader switches to a bucket to carry aggregate for track repairs.

Forks also carry replacement fencing materials to damaged boundaries.

On wet woodland routes, repeated trips can still cause rutting, so a compact machine needs a suitable working route.

On a building site, the loader can carry aggregate and supplies from the delivery point to the work area, then take spoil back for collection.

FAQs on compact loaders for the Scottish Borders

How long does it take to get a loader to the Scottish Borders?

We agree a delivery date against the equipment available and the transport needed for your address. Ask us about timing when requesting the quote, particularly if a fencing crew or other contractors are booked to start on a fixed day.

Can I hire a compact loader for just a few days?

Yes, subject to availability. A few days may be enough for clearing a steading or moving materials for a small renovation. Request a price for the complete booking, including the attachments and the cost of getting the machine to you and collecting it.

Which suits a hill farm, a MultiOne or a Sherpa?

The brand alone will not decide it. A loader for feeding inside a steading faces different constraints from one carrying fencing materials out onto hill ground. Describe both jobs if that is your workload; the recommendation must account for the slopes, access and load at each stage.

Is a compact loader the same as a backhoe loader or an excavator?

No. A compact loader mainly carries and places materials. An excavator or digger is designed for excavation, while backhoe loaders combine a front loading bucket with a rear digging arm. Some compact loaders take digging attachments, but sustained excavation needs suitable construction equipment. We tell you honestly if a compact loader is suitable for your project.

Can you service a loader I bought elsewhere?

Yes. You do not need to have purchased from ILH to book workshop work. Let us know which loader you own and what needs doing, including any attachment faults, and we can discuss the service or repair required.
