The Forst XR8D Traxion is the ultimate evolution of the popular TR8D platform, designed specifically for working on embankments and challenging terrain where stability and ground clearance are critical. The Traxion system uses a tough and robust scissor-action parallel leg design that allows each leg to extend and retract independently. This gives the machine exceptional versatility, enabling safe tracking on bank sides up to 35 degrees and the ability to negotiate over obstacles that would stop conventional tracked chippers.
Powered by a 55hp Doosan DPF diesel engine with direct drive hydraulics, the XR8D Traxion delivers amazing torque and tracking ability on the bank side. The direct drive system takes power straight from the engine, providing smooth and responsive control on steep gradients. With ground clearance up to 27 inches, the machine passes over rough terrain, stumps, and debris that other tracked chippers cannot clear. The tracking speed is fast too, getting operators to the work site quicker than competing machines.
The chipping performance matches the TR8D, with an 8 inch by 10 inch feed roller aperture and the ForstGrip feed roller system. Twin hydraulic horizontal rollers lift on an arc toward the timber for exceptional butt-end climbing grip, tensioned by heavy-duty springs with large bearings on either side for strength and durability. The open top flywheel measures 728mm by 30mm and carries twin 10 inch blades, generating phenomenal chipping velocity. Chip is thrown rather than blown, eliminating blockages on wet and green material.
All electrics are managed by the AutoIntelligence system with illuminated IP69 rated touch pad controls on both sides of the hopper and a traditional feed bar. The AutoIntelligence No Stress Device monitors engine load and adjusts the feed rate to prevent stalling. A clear 35 litre fuel tank with a wide filling neck ensures easy refuelling in the field.
The XR8D Traxion can be customised with optional extras to suit specific working requirements. An aluminium pump-action lighting tower extends to 3.5m and holds two 4692 lumen LED work lights, turning night into day for extended operations. Optional winches are also available for added capability in steep terrain. The robust construction uses heavy gauge steel throughout with plenty of support under the hopper.
The machine weighs 2135kg and measures 1.5m wide with tracks retracted. Length is 2.6m with hopper raised and 3.4m with hopper down. Height with the chute fitted is 2.5m. Noise output is rated at 122dB. The anvil can be turned or replaced in minutes for minimal downtime. Every new Forst XR8D Traxion comes with a 3 year warranty as standard.
The Forst XR8D Traxion is available for both hire and sale, making it the right choice for arboricultural contractors, utility companies, councils, and hire operators who need 8 inch chipping capability on embankments, steep terrain, and difficult access sites where no other machine can reach.
