The FSI B31-980 Remote takes the proven B31 platform and adds wireless remote control capability, allowing operators to control the machine from a safe distance. This is a significant advantage when working on slopes, near hazards, or in situations where standing directly behind the machine would be impractical or unsafe. The operator maintains full visibility of the work area while commanding all machine functions through a handheld remote unit equipped with dual joysticks and an emergency stop.
Powered by the same Kohler ECH980 air-cooled petrol engine as the standard B31, the Remote variant delivers 28 kW (38 hp) and carries a 25-litre fuel tank for extended working sessions. The fully hydraulic cutter wheel drive eliminates the need for daily V-belt maintenance and adjustments, reducing operating costs and downtime compared to belt-driven alternatives.
The 467mm cutting wheel uses the FSI 25 tooth system with 8 carbide-tipped teeth, achieving a maximum depth of 3.6cm per sweep. The hydraulic sweep system covers 120cm in a single pass, with cutting capability of 68cm above ground and 40-45cm below ground level. This deep cutting capacity ensures thorough stump removal well below the surface for immediate replanting or construction work.
Counter-rotating rubber tracks provide exceptional traction and stability across difficult terrain. Hydraulic motor brakes and a counterbalance valve deliver safe, controlled operation on slopes, automatically preventing unintended movement. The low centre of gravity further enhances stability during both grinding and transit. At just 740mm wide, the B31 Remote navigates through narrow garden gates, between buildings, and along tight pathways that wider machines cannot access.
The machine weighs 650kg as standard, or 665kg with the optional dozer blade fitted. Compact dimensions of 2335mm length, 740mm width, and 1095mm height (1120mm with document tube) make it easily transportable on a standard plant trailer. An optional dozer blade allows operators to backfill ground material over the grinding site for a tidy finish.
